Group Camp 2023
Each May sees a Group camp being set up, using a few different camp sites to give some variety of activities and a change of scenery for the young people, Beavers, Cubs and Scouts).
For the Cubs and Scouts, it starts on a Friday evening with tent pitching skills being practiced and a look round the site. Once the tents are up and personal kit placed inside it’s time for sausages, bread rolls and if liked tomato ketchup. A few games and its time for sleeping bags even it not for sleep!
Saturday morning arrives bright and early; for the Cubs breakfast is cooked by an adult to be eaten in the lodge booked for the weekend. Scouts on a separate site are busy cooking their own over a fie, using a camp barbeque.
The excited Beavers arrived mid-morning to help pitch their tents. They joined the Cubs in making catapults. The Scouts meanwhile were busy helping the camp wardens by taking pioneering signs around the site and a second set setting up a Beaver trail.
Adventure waited for them with soft archery for the Beavers, archery for the Cubs and caving for the Scouts, an old bus has been set up with tunnels to resemble a cave. Tea was followed with the traditional campfire and songs as they all relaxed after a busy day. Marshmallows were toasted over the campfire by the Cubs and Scouts for supper for everyone.
Sunday saw another sunny day with adventures booked for the young people, climbing and crossbows for the Scouts, low ropes and the cave bus for the Beavers and Cubs.
Overall, a great camp lots of fun and adventures, with points to wards badges, leading in time to the Chief Scouts Award, Bronze for Beavers, Silver for Cubs and Gold for Scouts.
